Replacement of Boom Cylinders on 250T NOV Knuckle Boom Crane
The subsea construction vessel is equipped with a 250 ton main crane, i.e. an Active Heave Compensated Offshore Crane, make N.O.V., National Oilwell Varco, type OC4475KSCE-(50-250) AHC.
The luffing cylinders on the main boom were leaking and had to be removed, overhauled ashore and re-installed. As this is a major job, the owners issued a crane repair tender which was awarded to ALATAS Singapore Pte Ltd, as ALATAS could deliver the shortest repair times.
ALATAS carried out the project engineering work, supplied crane engineers and mobilized labour and rigging equipment to carry out the following SOW (Scope of work):
1) To remove both main boom cylinders for overhaul ashore
2) To change the cylinder bushings
3) To re-install the overhauled cylinders
4) To carry our crane function testing
5) To carry out proof load testing 275T main hoist, 25T aux. hoist and 4T man riding
The work was carried out exactly on schedule, within budget and to the highest standards expected by our customer.
