Comprehensive crane boom repair and crane overhaul on a Tsuji deck crane, type 4525
ALATAS Middle East completed a comprehensive crane boom repair and crane overhaul in spring 2013 on a Tsuji deck crane, type 4525. The damages caused to the crane boom required the boom foot section to be newly built and exchanged with the damaged unit. Heavy corrosion caused excessive wear on the boom top structure connecting the boom main section with the boom head accommodating all luffing and hoist wire sheaves. For the boom top section repair it was necessary to separate the boom head from the main section and to re-join after replacing large areas of corroded 6mm sheets. Due to the load carrying structure it was necessary working close with the certifying authority GL together on this project.
The job scope included the following:
Condition evaluation and damage assessment of the complete deck crane.
Engineering, design and structural calculation of a new boom foot and head section.
Establishment of complete repair procedures including the class approval of GL.
Preparation of a full de-commissioning, repair, fabrication and commissioning documentation.
Overhaul of crane hook block with GL testing and certification.
Overhaul of all wire rope sheaves.
Overhaul of boom pivot section and bearings.
Supervising of de-commissioning, repair, fabrication, NDT and commissioning.
Load and overload test of the crane using a complete barge as test weight.
Hand Over.
ALATAS' vast expertise in procurement of spare parts for outdated cranes, our experienced engineers and our workshop resources were put to good use on this project.
ALATAS Middle East is pleased how the project was managed jointly with GL and the client.
The handover and certification of GL underlines the satisfaction of the customer and will be maintained in the years to come.
